Early-bird special extended to Oct. 25! Final registration is Nov. 1. Needs-based scholarships are available.
Are you desiring tools and opportunities to slow down? Are you finding the need and desire to trust yourself and your journey enough to truly hear your own voice and follow your intuition? Do you ever feel a call or a pull and want to have greater confidence in understanding how you're being guided? Perhaps you have a passion for genealogy and ancestry? Or, you're looking to heal the divide between you and your ancestors.
If so, this 4-week series is for you!
In this generative writing series, I will share tips and resources to help you:
1. listen more deeply,
2. connect with the spirit of your ancestors and your spirit guides to gain insight, knowledge and inspiration.
3. trust what you are hearing,
4. use creative writing as your companion.
I believe this understanding of the "call and response" to be sacred work, and I will walk alongside you as you go within to hear what you most desire, connect with the spiritual world, write your story (in whatever genre speaks to you).
If you have taken my "Writing the Ancestors," this series goes deeper. If you want to have a clearer connection with your own spirit, or hear from an ancestor, or be one with the earth or your spirit guides, this series will provide you with the opportunity to start or deepen your own practice.

Schedule:
Week 1. What's the Journey? | Fri., Nov. 8
We set our intentions, get to know one another, and begin our journey to open our hearts and minds, setting us up for a successful journey. Tips on altar creations and other ways to deepen your communion with yourself, your ancestors and spirit guides will be offered.
Week 2. What's the Call? | Fri., Nov 15
Picking up from the previous week, we will look at how to open and listen (and to whom or what). How to prepare yourself to be a vessel and a scribe for that which lies beneath the noise. How to strengthen intuition and discernment. There will be time for writing prompts and Q&A.
Week 3. What's the Response? | Fri., Nov 22
How do you write based on what we hear? How do you transcribe the spiritual inklings? How do you build and nurture your relationships with that of the spirit and/or ancestors and write from that voice? There will be time for writing prompts and Q&A.
[New this year! I'm adding the option to join me in-person in Winston-Salem, NC, for a visit to a local cemetery, writing, and conversation on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 30). This is open to others not in this class as well. If you're interested in adding this as part of your experience, at no extra charge, let me know!]
Week 4. What's Next? Fri., Dec 6
We will close with some sharing of our work from the series, any revelations, and intentions around what is next.

Why work with Jacinta?
After experiencing the sudden passing of her father -- with whom, months prior she'd shared her first published poem, Jacinta found poetry to be her "lifeline." Years later, she founded The Word Project (2001), to help others find their healing power and voice through poetry and creativity.
Jacinta holds a BA in Speech Communications and a MPA in Nonprofit Management. She's studied Poetry Therapy with Dr. Sherry Reiter of the Creative Righting Center in NY, and have worked alongside renowned poetry therapist, author, and friend John Fox. She's also been fortunate to study poetry with Terrance Hayes, Stuart Dischell, and Cecilia Woloch, just to name a few.
Her recent talks have included: “Embodied: Writing Across Memory, Time & Space,” Carolina Mountains Literary Festival, Burnsville, NC. • “The Courage to be Curious,” Jennie Earle, online. • “Embodied: Writing Across Memory, Time & Space,” Hughlene Bostain Frank Visiting Writers Series, Appalachian State University, Boone, NC. • “Resurrecting the Bones: A Journey through Women’s Poetry and African American History,” Kennesaw State University, online. • “Narrative Medicine” Panel Discussion, Dominican University of California, online. • “Poetry, Memory & Land,” Hughlene Bostain Frank Visting Writers Series, Appalachian State University, Boone, NC. • Religion in Live TV Interview, Appalachian State University, Boone, NC. • “Poetic Practice Towards Wellbeing,” Artivate Summit, UNCSA, Winston-Salem, NC. • “Intention & Presence,” Winston Under 40 Awards Ceremony Keynote, Winston-Salem Chamber, Winston-Salem, NC. • “Poetry, Memory & Land”, NC A&T State University, Greensboro, NC. • “Born from a Journey, For a Journey,” Hunters Chapel United Methodist Church, Cornelius, NC. • “Life of the Elegy,” Press 53 Gathering of Poets, Winston-Salem, NC.
For more than 20 years, Jacinta has lead 1:1 and group workshops and sessions online and in person. Since the publication of her latest book, Resurrecting the Bones: A Journey through African American Churches and Cemeteries in the Rural South (read more here) she has focused a lot of her work on ancestral healing and writing. Her chapbook, broken ritual, was released by Finishing Line Press in 2012. Other works include poetry in, What Matters Anthology (Jacar Press, 2013), Press 53 Open Awards Anthology (2008) as its first prize winner, contributor to My Soul to His Spirit: Soulful Writings of African American Daughters to Their Fathers (SoulDictates, 2005), and editor of Walking With God (Duncan & Duncan, 1996). See a list of more recent published work here.
Jacinta's sensitivity to each she works with and to the work itself sets her apart.
