Workshop descriptions

New Year's Eve, 'Rumi & the Art of Turning'
We offer poetry workshops as 1) group sessions for children and adults, 2) private sessions for adults, and 3) online sessions for adults. Understanding the often complex issues hindering one's healing, our workshops are designed as a process and not a one-time event to allow time for discovery and growth.
See below for workshop descriptions. Have something more specific you would like us to focus on? Contact us and we can develop a curriculum to meet your needs! (No poetry writing experience is necessary to benefit from our workshops.)
* Indicates currently being offered to the public. See next page "Calendar/Registration" for how you can take the workshop. Something here you want to see offered soon? Contact us about offering a workshop at your location!
* 3rd Annaul New Year's Eve Poetry Celebration
"Fire in the Voice: Poetry to Close Out the Year," Featuring poems by Pablo Neruda
We will explore the works of renowned and acclaimed Latin-American poet Pablo Neruda (1923-1973), looking at his use of “fire” and how we can apply that symbolism—along with the symbolism of water, voice and silence— to our own life. We will read, share, discuss, write, fellowship, and be renewed! Bring a journal or a notebook, and a dish or beverage for the potluck to follow. A love donation is appreciated. No poetry writing experience is necessary to participate.
* Poetry towards Self-Awareness: A Retreat. In this two day (non-overnight) "re-treat," participants are guided in using poetry and other art forms for self-discovery and delight. There will be ample time for reading, writing and sharing within an intimate group setting. Whether you are a poetry lover or novice, this series is for you if you're longing to discover something new about yourself or wanting to peel back a layer or two and find your creative, healing voice again.
* The Art of Losing: Poetry, Grief & Healing. Here, we will talk specifically about our experience with grief. Whether it's grief of a loved one, a pet, a job, or physical ability, we will explore the sense of loss and look at how we recover. With the understanding that we come to and through grief in our own time, we will sensitively look through the lens of poetry at the pain, confusion and sometimes relief in loss, as well as our healing. Participants will be guided to write their own poetry exploring their emotions, memories and hopes.
The Healing Art of Poetry Writing. When approached as a transformational process, poetry writing provides an opportunity for deep inner healing. It encourages connection and meaning with the self and with others. We will discuss the healing art of poetry writing but participants will also be guided into their own writing exercises. No previous poetry experience is required.
Women, Life and Poetry. This workshop looks at poems that illuminate stages of a woman's life, and gently guides participants to capture their stories through poetry. We read, write and share in a common yet unique and diverse voice. No previous experience with poetry is needed. This is open to women only.
In addition to our new workshops above, we offer the following for group and individual sessions:
Spiritual/Religious Growth & Healing Workshops:
Awakening Presence: Deepening Your Relationship with God through Poetry This six week series shares classical and contemporary poetry, and allows time to write your own spiritual journey poetically.
Congregational Healing: Following the Thread from Pain to Peace This three workshop uses poetry, discussion and self-expression exercises to help persons go deeper into the healing process. During this intimate workshop we will read, discuss and write poetry that speaks to some of our deep rooted individual and collective experiences that they may be released and forgiven.
