children/youth workshops |
|
This series of workshops encompasses all of the basics of poetry making. Participants will study poetry and also learn how to incorporate images and syntax in their writing. Each session will include participants sharing their work and experiences with writing that particular piece. Some take-home exercises will be given. These sessions can occur as often as the organizer would like. |
|
One of our popular series, this workshop encompasses writing and presentation. Not as much focus is given on historical or current poets. Rather, the emphasis is on getting students comfortable to share their writings. At least three workshops are recommended for this series. |

the WORD project (TWP) is on a mission to team up with local schools, churches and nonprofit organizations interested in providing children and youth with the creative outlet of writing. Participants are encouraged to find their own creative voice while also learning poetry techniques including Haiku and Pantoum. Students will study classical and contemporary poets while also being challenged to write their own poem. These programs also include sessions on presentation, giving students skills to enhance their public speaking and “slam”. This is ideal as a part of after-school or summer programs. In addition to the workshops below, TWP is able to create a workshop around your need or theme, or conduct a one-day workshop. Call TWP today! |

This series is a shorter version of the full session. In these workshops, participants will be given a brief overview of different poetic styles and techniques. This is a great compliment to school’s English programs. Again, the organizer has the option of when to schedule these workshops. We recommend however, that the class meets anywhere from once a week for six weeks to twice a month for three months. |
