poetry writing workshops for everyday people |

It is only natural, when taken and given the time to look within to find your words and rhythm, on some level healing takes place. Most always, when conducting poetry writing workshops, we at the WORD project (TWP) hear participants say, “I didn’t know I felt that way.” “I didn’t realize I was still angry.” “This has helped me come to terms with what I’ve been hiding.” We have found through our exercises that poetry writing is a non-intrusive way for persons to hear their inner spirit and began to see, as in looking at a mirror, the areas that may need to be released. Writing not only identifies areas of tension, but can also serve as an avenue to release blockages to healing. |

A scholarly literary search will reveal more entries under the term "bibliotherapy" than the term "poetry therapy," which became popular in the 1960's and 1970's. "Bibliotherapy" literally means books, or literature, to serve or help medically. Poetry Therapy is a specific and powerful form of bibliotherapy, unique in its use of metaphor, imagery, rhythm, and other poetic devices. Though TWP facilitators are not poetry therapist, they have studied within that focus with other poetry therapists. If you are interested in having a Group Workshop designed to assist in healing, grief, anger/stress, self care, call us today! We want to partner with you in giving the gift of poetry writing. We also conduct one-on-one workshops. One-on-One Workshops are ideal for those who prefer the intimate setting of sharing. The participant can choose from among the following themes or suggest their own. TWP facilitator will compassionately walk the participant through the writing exercises. Here’s what one “one-on-one” participant had to say after a session: “I really did enjoy the workshop. It surprised me in a very pleasant way. You have a gift of making people comfortable in a situation where most of us are very unsure of ourselves. It is a gift to me.” [A one-on-one workshop tends to last 1 to 1.5 hours at the fee of $45. All materials are provided. No previous poetry writing experience necessary.]
Healing workshop themes: Grief/Loss, Life Transitions, Health, Relationships, Fear, General Self-Discovery.
